Cure Violence has made an impact in communities in several cities. See examples of how our approach has reduced violence and helped transform lives.
This Mother’s Day, you can give the gift that EVERY mother wants – a safe neighborhood for her children. Because we CAN stop shootings and killings. Cure Violence is doing it – in Chicago, in Baltimore, in New York City, in New Orleans, in Kansas City – in 16 cities in 45 neighborhoods across the United States.
Your gift of $25 puts a Violence Interrupter on the street for an hour. That’s enough time to intercept a whisper, to calm a potential shooter, to mediate what otherwise might be a lethal conflict. That’s what Violence Interrupters who work for Cure Violence do. They’re a new kind of healthcare workers – someone who lives in the community, who knows the players, who hears about feuds before they erupt and turn deadly. They’re trained to help individuals solve conflicts without resorting to violence.
Eight mothers a day lose a child to gun violence in the U.S. That’s not right. That’s just not right. NO mother should lose a child to gun violence. NO mother should have to worry that her child will be the victim of a random gun shot. NO mother should live in fear that her seven year old, or her 14 year old or her 17 year old will not live to celebrate another birthday.
Our health approach to violence is working. Cure Violence just had another independent evaluation – our third. The evaluation showed that our New York City program was responsible for reducing violence in the Crown Heights neighborhood by 20%. That’s a lot of lives saved.
We need your help to continue this progress. We need YOUR help to make EVERY neighborhood safe – so that EVERY mother has a safe neighborhood for our children. So that EVERY mother has a happy Mother’s Day.
Please, make your gift today.
