Violence Interrupter in Brooklyn IS “Moral Courage”

Violence interrupter Kenneth Edwards was recently profiled on YouTube’s “Moral Courage Channel” as an agent of change in violence prevention efforts at our partner site, Save Our Streets (SOS) Crown Heights, in New York City.

Incarcerated at the age of 17 after committing an act of violence Edwards decided he “wanted to be part of the change” upon release. Subsequently, he joined Brooklyn’s SOS Crown Heights team where, in his role as a credible messenger working to reduce violence, he has contributed to a decrease in shooting rates in his community, according to an evaluation by the Center for Court Innovation. The evaluation also found that when compared with the upward trend in the surrounding precincts, gun violence in Crown Heights was 20 percent lower than what it would have been without SOS Crown Heights!
