Patrick Stewart Highlights Relationship Between IPV, PTSD and the Epidemic of Violence

At last month’s Comicpalooza, actor Patrick Stewart took a poignant opportunity during a Q&A session to call attention to the often overlooked relationship between intimate partner violence (IPV) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

IPV and PTSD are often mischaracterized as moralistic shortcomings rather than symptoms or syndromes of the epidemic of violence that diminishes the health of communities and individuals across the US and beyond.

Most commonly known for his roles in Star Trek: The Next Generation and the X-Men series, Stewart has switched gears in recent years, becoming a well-known advocate for domestic violence and related issues, inspired by his own childhood experiences with the subject matter.
